A Fresh Look for Helen Green Design

22 Ways We're Doing Better
April 22, 2025
At Allect Design Group, we believe design is about more than beauty—it's about impact. Sustainability isn’t just part of our process; it’s woven into the fabric of who we are. From the first sketch to the final screw, we approach every decision with care, responsibility, and optimism.
This Earth Day - always on April 22 - we’re proud to share 22 improvements we are making across our group to design more consciously, build more responsibly, and operate more mindfully. Some are big changes. Others are quiet shifts. All reflect our commitment to doing better—joyfully, practically, and together.
Creating spaces that feel good and do good.
We approach every project with environmental performance in mind, placing sustainability at the heart of design from day one.
Our team is embracing WELL principles—designing spaces that promote physical and mental wellbeing and educating ourselves along the way.
We’re prioritising passive strategies like natural ventilation and daylight, while incorporating AirRated certifications and energy assessments into our projects.
We champion materials that are low-impact, responsibly sourced, and traceable—designed for both beauty and ethics.
Our philosophy is simple: buy well, build once. We prioritise quality and durability to reduce future waste and create lasting legacy.
Building with care for the world around us.
We focus on preserving mature trees, enhancing biodiversity, and thoughtfully integrating the natural landscape wherever possible.
Waste reduction is non-negotiable. On every site, we’re reusing, recycling, and implementing strict sustainability protocols.
From carbon offsetting internal events to promoting greener travel options, our procurement strategy is consciously low-carbon.
We're sourcing locally to reduce carbon miles, support communities and makers, and keep our footprint light.
On-site operations now prioritise minimal environmental disruption by using non-potable water where possible and optimising energy use through smart systems and practices.
Embedding sustainability into everyday decisions.
We created an internal hub to test ideas, explore ESG innovations, and accelerate our learning.
Through digital-first platforms and tools like e-notebooks, we’ve reduced our paper use dramatically.
LED lighting, smart heating systems, dark screen policies, and a cycle-to-work scheme are all helping us reduce our environmental impact at HQ.
Hybrid work policies mean fewer commutes, reduced energy use, and better work-life balance for our team—supported by smart systems like Egnyte.
We're committed to continuous ESG training across the group, including a shared database so knowledge is accessible to all.
Using tools of the future to protect the future.
These technologies help us reduce waste, lower travel needs, and visualise smarter, more sustainable solutions.
High-resolution virtual site visits reduce the need for travel and improve accuracy.
We’re investing in AI tools and refreshing our digital platforms to work smarter and communicate more effectively.
Working with those who share our values.
We are proud to align with organisations that champion conscious luxury and transparent practices.
We support impactful causes like Lighthouse Club, Wings for Life, and Miles2Mountains—with meaningful donations and active involvement.
We support students from the University of the Arts London by donating our fabric and material off-cuts for their projects.
Leading by example, with honesty and optimism.
We believe in sharing our ESG goals and progress openly—to inspire action, encourage innovation, and push our industry forward.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come—but we know this is just the beginning. Sustainability is never “done.” It’s a joyful, humbling process of learning by doing—adjusting, improving, and staying curious.
